My Life in Protest Slogans
I grew up in a family that believed in the adage that silence is the voice of complicity. We participated in protests when we were needed. I haven't been to a protest march this decade though....am I getting old?
I was reading blogs and listening to "the soundtrack of my life" (iTunes smart playlist) when one of the old slogans intruded:
Hey, Hey, LBJ, How many kids did you kill today?
A few seconds of thought brought back my life decade by decade...
Desegregation now!
Act Up!/ Against Abortion? Don't Have One.
Fairness -- No More -- No Less
I can't say I have been tireless in the struggle. I have raised children and worked steady. My life hasn't been devoted to a single cause. I pick my fights. But, if nothing else, I have raised children that don't suffer silently. I am confident my daughters will continue to struggle against those who oppress.
