A Community Meme

I never do those "Friday Five" sorts of questions. It's rare I need a reason to post. But Neil Turner had a good idea...a community meme. Here are the 18 questions developed by Neil and readers of his site:

1. Who do you admire the most and why?
My wife. She is intelligent, kind, caring, giving, a great librarian, a fantastic mother, the absolute best wife, and she has the patience of Job. (She developed the last while putting up with me.)

2. What would you have as your last meal if you were on death row?
The finger of the guard strapping me to the chair.

3. What is your earliest memory?
I can't tell you that. It's just too depressing.

4. If you had 3 wishes, what would your 3rd wish be?
That my daughter would announce to her friends that her life had been the most full, healthy, exciting, and loving as they all celebrated her 96th bithday.

5. If you had to be blind or deaf, which would you choose?
Deaf. I think I'm heading there anyway.

6. Have you ever been dared to do something where the risk exceeded the reward (ie. jump off a building for a penny)?
"I dare you to vote." Seriously, no. I always took most risk for their own reward,

7. If you were forced to live the rest of your existence in a fictional world from a movie, book and TV show which ones would you select?
I have to assume I'm the lead...
Movie: The Matrix so I can just create the rest of my desires.
Book: The Swiss Family Robinson
TV Show: The Dick Van Dyke Show

8. If you had a superpower, which superpower would it be and why?
Super speed

9. What is your favourite vegetable?
The red pepper

10. In how many different languages do you know the meaning of at least one word?
No in English, French, German, Russian, and Southern

11. What did you want to be when you were a child?
An aerospace enginner, but only because they told me my health wouldn't allow me to be an astronaut.

12. What one event (if any) would you change in your personal past if you had the power to do it once?
I firmly believe that the ramifications are too many when you make that one simple change. If I decide to not get the metalic green bike when I was 10, does that mean my daughter won't be born? No, I'll live with all the events as is. Even that major mistake at 19.

13. What’s the one question you want to be asked of you in an interview?
"How can you help our company?"

14. Have you ever cheated death?
Every single damn day. And he's getting really pissed off too.

15. What was the most important decision you’ve ever had to make?
I didn't have to make it, but the decision to ask Catherine to marry me.

16. Which sports team do you support the most, and why?
The Chicago White Sox. Why? See Luis Aparicio.

17. Mobile phones (cellphones) - evil or good?
Good. Though I find silly all the people walking around with cellphones mounted to the ears I find the phones themselves very useful.

18. What is your favourite song at the moment?
Keep Me in Your Heart -- Warren Zevon

I'm surprised to see you're such a fan of Luis Aparicio! That rocks on many levels, my friend.

My uncle was Luis's neighbor back in Maracaibo when they were kids and talk to each other about once or twice a year. I once had a baseball signed by Luis, but my moronic older brother and two of my sisters exes used it to play ball and completely ruined it! Guess who in my family never gets a Christmas present from me?

It was really cool to see Luis along with Chico Carrasquel throw the first pitches at Ozzie Guillen's debut as the White Sox manager.

Oh man! Tell your moronic older brother he is also off my Christmas list!

What kind of world is this? I somehow find your blog and your uncle was Luis's neighbor. Amazing.

Next you'll tell me that you and Warren Zevon partied one crazy night in 1986.

I hope you enjoyed your vacation. Wait. I can go check...

Oh? didn't I tell you about that time ol' Warren and me jammed for hours and hours? It wasn't in '86 though, it was in '87...;P

The L.A. ball incident was way back in the late 80's. You should have seen it, all scratched and covered in dirt. You could no longer read Luis's signature. And to make matters worse, two of my cousins (who are about my age) got signed baseballs too, and since they weren't baseball fans, they gave them away to friends...oh, the humanity!
