Beautiful World 2.0 - Temple of Me

Temple of Me

Welcome. All web sites are temples to their creators. Temple of Me will reflect what interests me, Temple of Me. I am a husband, father (twice), American, and liberal. I live in a "Red state" in the South. I am nearsighted, ambidextrous and over 30. Actually, I'm 153.33% of thirty.

Beautiful World 2.0

/2009/01/toaster.jpgYou might remember when I told you about Target's use of one of my favorite songs: It's a Beautiful World by Devo.

The Spuds are at it again. From what I understand the lads make nothing from their old records. They now sell their songs with the condition they do the new recording themselves. Now they've found a new way to cash in on devolution.

Dev2.0

Yes, a Devo cover band where the guys cover themselves. They've altered the songs to fit a new generation and have hired some pre-teens to sing and lip-sync in new videos. It's as bad as you imagine.

But, I come to praise Mothersbaugh not bury him.

What genius. You're audience is middle-aged. They're want to recapture those glory days. They remember that Monday morning when they walked around semi-singing "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" in a herky-jerky rhythm. The Target ad got their attention and you want to keep it. There is only one sure-fire answer. Hit them where they overspend. Their kids!

Sell Devo to them for their kids! But not pure Devo. That would melt young brains. Good parents do not melt the brains of their prodigy.

/2009/01/dev20.jpgFirst, be careful with the videos. No forks stuck in toasters for these kids. Their parents are now safety conscious. This time put on a happy face. Have kids jump to the music and green screen innocuous images for a background. The kids will love it. Their older sisters listened to the Spice Girls didn't they?

Damn I wish I had a piece of this. Who cares that "It's a Beautiful World" now ends with "and me too!" and "Uncontrollable Urge" is now about a snack attack?

I don't. My little girl will get this album. And someday, when the time is right, I'll replace her old Dev2.0 disk with a pristine copy of "Q: Are We Not Men? A: We are Devo."

I love DEVO, isn't "Whip It" about masturbating? Way to go Disney.
